The Perfect Tea-Time Treat: Matcha Green Tea Sugar Cookies

October 27, 2014 by Kristen

My Mom is a baking machine! When I was a little kid, weekends were filled with making pies to freeze for winter, baking chocolate chip cookies to take to school, or creating special treats that were packed in lunches. It’s no wonder I have a sweet tooth.

A while back my sweet tooth was calling out, and I decided to try and combine my love for both tea and sugar cookies. I mean really, what is better than tea in your cookies? Especially when it’s rich earthy Matcha tea.

Matcha is the result of grinding up fine quality green tea leafs into a soft powder and is traditionally part of the Japanese Tea Ceremony. Today you can buy Matcha from a variety of different places and below is the collection of different Matcha that I’ve acquired over the last few years.

Fall Colors in Dundee

October 23, 2014 by Kristen

As I sit here and write this blog post, the sound of rain can be heard rushing through the gutters of our house. We’re experiencing our first major rain storm of the season and while it makes me miss summer, it also means I get to curl up by the fireplace and sip on spiced cider.

Some people wait all year for spiced pumpkin lattes, but I am a cider girl through and through!

I was out on a walk this past weekend and couldn’t help but take pictures of the fall leaves. Such beautiful colors this time of year.

Celebrating Dundee Fire Station No. 3

October 22, 2014 by Kristen

Saturday was an exciting day in Dundee, as community members came together to celebrate the opening of Dundee Fire Station No. 3! The weather was overcast and a bit drizzly at times, but that wasn’t enough to prevent a crowd from gathering. By the time I arrived, the new 54-stall parking lot was completely full!

Getting the Honeybees Ready for Winter

October 17, 2014 by Kristen

The honeybees have been home for a few weeks now, and with fall approaching The Renaissance Man decided it was time to get the honeybees ready for winter.

Just like you winterize your house, you also need to winterize your honeybees. We’ll be removing the empty honey supers and checking the hives for mites.
